Meet the mothers behind Swazi — the women who design it, test it, and get it out the door.

This Mother's Day, we're handing the gift guide over to the women who know our gear best. Three mums from the Swazi crew. Their picks, their stories, and what a good Mother's Day looks like in their book.

Georgia Pearson | Warehouse Supervisor

You’re the person who gets Swazi gear out the door to customers — what’s it like knowing you’re the last hands that touch it before it reaches someone?

It’s actually a pretty cool feeling to be honest. Being the last person to handle the order means you have that final bit of responsibility to make sure it’s right. There’s also a feeling of pride that comes with it also. Swazi gear is known for being tough and reliable, so knowing you’re a part of that process, even at the final stage, feels like you’re contributing to that reputation.

Do your kids know what mum does at work — have they ever come in and seen the warehouse?

Yes, they were able to come in over the Christmas period and have a good look around. They don’t quite grasp the importance of making sure every order is correct, and making sure everything is tidy in its place, but they get the gist that mum takes this very seriously. I previously worked on a chicken farm, and they have mentioned a few times that “this place smells way better mum”.

What kind of mum do you want your kids to remember you as?

One that wasn’t afraid of rolling up her sleeves and getting dirty. One that takes pride in doing a good job and being a valued team member, but also knows that these years go quick, so no matter how busy I am, or what we have going on here at work, I make sure to show up. You can be a hard worker and an active parent, and I am proof.

What does your ideal Mother’s Day look like this year?

I like to think I’m a pretty simple person, so a coffee in bed, and getting off dinner duties sounds amazing. The kids are into biking at the moment so taking them for a bike ride would also be lovely.

Flick Marlow | Corporate Sales Manager

You’ve been in the Swazi world for a long time - how has your relationship with the brand changed as you’ve gotten older and your son & daughter have grown up?

To be honest, the Swazi brand is like family to me, and over the years of working here, I’ve made many lifetime friends. Swazi people are very cool and I’m super proud to be part of it.

What does a typical day in corporate sales look like?

Phones ringing, having a laugh with Customers/Co-Workers, organised chaos with highlights of converting non Swazi people to Swazi.

What does being part of a small town business like Swazi mean to you personally?

Swazi has been my family outside of my own family for 23 years. To think that a global brand started out in a Railway Station in little old Levin, is pretty cool.

What does your ideal Mother’s Day look like this year?

Having a chat with the Kids and going up to our bush block hut, away from the rat race.

Abigail Leung | Garment Technologist & Procurement Co-ordinator

You test and quality check every product before it goes anywhere — does that change how you feel when you put on a piece of Swazi gear yourself?

It makes me feel proud. Because I’m involved in testing the product at every stage—from the initial prototype right through to production—I see the care that goes into each detail. I have total confidence because I’ve seen the standard maintained from day one. I love knowing our gear helps people get through the roughest weather in the mountains or the bush, whether they are hunting, outdoors, or wearing our safety workwear.

Your job is literally about making sure things meet the standard — do you bring that same energy to motherhood or do you try to let go of that at home?

Actually, I’m quite chill at home. We have a flexible routine where the kids are encouraged to try anything and make their own decisions, as long as they follow the house rules. I encourage them to make their own checklists for jobs so they can learn to quality check themselves, but I definitely don’t try to “quality check” my kids!

What do you want your kids to know about what you do when they’re older?

I want them to know that I worked on something that actually matters—making high-quality gear that keeps people safe and comfortable when they’re out in the elements.

What does your ideal Mother’s Day look like this year?

I’d love to get outdoors with the family—nothing too rushed, just a nice long walk together and a picnic lunch in the park. Just enjoying each other’s company in the fresh air is the perfect day for me.
