Introducing Swazi® Ambassador: Baz

Hunter and guide Baz has been teaching folks how to hunt across New Zealand and Australia for years and he’s been repping the Swazi® Clan as an ambassador for a while too. You’ll often spot him in a range of our legendary gear, but here are a few of his go-to favourites

Hi, I’m Baz—a husband, a father of 8 and proud grandfather of 5 with a deep-rooted passion for the great outdoors. Hunting runs through my veins, just as it has for generations before me. The only difference today is that some of us still live it, while others choose to leave it behind.

From a young age, all I ever sought was adventure. That hunger has taken me to some of the most breathtaking places on Earth and gifted me with experiences so powerful, they can’t truly be described—only imagined.

Marco Polo Hunt

It had always been a dream of mine to hunt Marco Polo sheep, and I was truly humbled by the opportunity. And boy, did the mountains deliver.

This hunt was everything I envisioned—and more. I can’t fully explain the feeling of that first moment, when I finally held my ram in my hands and gazed upon such a magnificent animal. It was surreal. A moment etched into my soul forever.

The journey was packed with ups and downs, as you’d expect from an international hunt of this magnitude. The 4,500-meter altitude showed no mercy, humbling us sea-level dwellers with every step. Breathing was a constant battle, each inhale hard-earned.

Daytime temperatures hovered around -10°C, and the nights dropped even lower. The steep, unforgiving mountains chewed us up and spat us out, as if testing whether we truly belonged there. The horse riding alone battered and bruised us, grinding our bodies down into a humble soup, and leaving us with an even deeper appreciation for the strength and spirit of these majestic animals.

nursing injuries—bruises, horse falls, exposure, and the wear and tear of pushing my self to the limit. But to experience it all… I wouldn’t trade a single moment. After days of glassing, grinding up steep ridgelines, and pushing through freezing winds that cut to the bone, the moment finally came. We spotted him—a heavy-horned old ram bedded high on an exposed slope, watching over his kingdom like a ghost of the mountains. He was everything I had hoped for—majestic, ancient, and wise beyond comprehension.

The final stalk tested every ounce of patience and discipline I had. With the thin air burning my lungs and my legs screaming from the climb, I crawled inch by inch, closing the distance. Time slowed. My heart pounded louder than the wind.

And then… the shot. One clean pull of the trigger, and the echo rolled across the valleys like thunder. My ram lay still. A flood of emotion hit me—relief, gratitude, respect, and awe. I approached slowly, knowing I was stepping into a sacred moment.

Kneeling beside him, I laid my hands on his massive horns, worn smooth by years of surviving the unforgiving wilderness. He was a true monarch of the mountains, and I was deeply honoured to have shared just a sliver of his world.

This wasn’t just a hunt—it was a pilgrimage. A test of spirit. A reminder of how small we are in the face of wild nature, and how powerful the connection becomes when we truly earn the experience.

The Swazi lineup is truly something special—there’s something for everyone, no matter the adventure. I’ve hunted in temperatures ranging from +40°C -40°C and I’ve trusted Swazi gear in some of the most remote and unforgiving places on Earth.

Everyone has their favourite piece, and I’ve got a few—but the standout for me is The  Hood. I use it for everything: hunting, fishing, camping, working. It feels incredible on the skin, breathes exceptionally well, and has become my go-to all-rounder.

For backcountry missions, the Tahr Ultralight is, in my opinion, unmatched. It’s a must-have shell—lightweight, windproof, waterproof, and tough as nails. When conditions go from bad to worse, this jacket could genuinely save your life. It takes punishment like no other in its class.

And when you pair these pieces together? That combo is unstoppable. Wherever your next adventure takes you—Swazi has your back.
